Criminology at the University of Salford has expanded rapidly since 2001, symbolised by the opening (in September 2007) of a single honours Criminology degree. A new degree in Law and Criminology is scheduled to start in September 2008 and will add to the range of joint degrees which combine Criminology with Sociology, Cultural Studies, Politics, Psychology or Journalism. At postgraduate level, Salford has an established MSc in Crime and Criminal Justice and new programmes in Human Rights and Terrorism (starting in 2008) which also incorporate modules with criminological research and thinking.
Within this expanding range of activity, violence is a key area of interest, as evidenced by both specialist modules and staff research projects. To bolster this expansion, the Sociology Subject Group is seeking to incorporate an additional staff member with expertise in both the general discipline of criminology and the specific field of violence.
