Hi Barry,
I assumed it had speech recognition, hence the need to involve a company
like Nuance in the development. Am I wrong?

Interesting to describe it as using a "verbal interface". I immediately
thought it meant speech recognition! I've recently stopped telling people
that an ECS has a "spoken menu" because they thought I meant "speech
recognition". I'm using "announcements" now!
Not sure about the number pad. The finger movements necessary don't feel
very natural. Although you could do the lot with your thumb like a wiimote.
If only it would do announced menus for DVDs & Sky EPGs.

If it was done well though, it could cross-over back to mainstream , since
lots of people use/would like to use their mobile hands-free... (OK, this is
probably high-foluted). This is another reason that the name is awful (and
not very inclusive). Obviously you can do everything it does on a standard
phone though maybe in a non-optimal way?

Under ˆ50 would be impressive but I’m not at all sure about the concept.
Hard to think of an example of where this entry level functionality approach
has succeeded. Where such things are popular with users the same users
quickly become confident, their expectations lift and they move on to more
mainstream technology. A success in it’s own way but not good for the
sustainability of the device.
One thing I am certain of though – the name is awful.

Not sure about the name, but this might be quite cool if it gets to market:
