Following my posting on this topic to the list on 12 June, I have received
several helpful comments off-list in addition to those sent to the list.
To sum it up, no one has responded that they do not allow digital
photography from microfilm or advances reasons why it should not be
allowed. The general drift is that it will happen so we should try and
control it to at least make users aware, as Tim Padfield pointed out, of
the limits on fair dealing. Most respondents seemed to insist on completed
declaration forms and charge for use of a camera, although a few do not.
The point was also made that digital photgraphy did reduce the waste paper
created by failed reader/printer attempts! However one office flagged up
what was to me a new issue - users slipping thier own pendrives into
reader printers linked to PCs. Our own reader/printers are of a previous
generation ( a bit like me) so not an issue here!
Thanks to all those who responded.
And a good weekend to all!
