Statistician- (Cambridge): Three years fixed term
£25,368 to £29,222 per annum
The MRC Biostatistics Unit aims to advance medical science by the
development, application and dissemination of statistical methods. It is
one of Europe’s leading biostatistics research institutions and includes
many internationally renowned statisticians. It provides a privileged
environment for conducting research, with negligible administration, no
requirement to teach, and access to important applications of high public
interest.
We seek a statistician to work within the programme Randomised trials,
health economic evaluation, and meta-analysis, led by Simon Thompson. The
successful applicant will contribute to a programme of statistical analyses
of major applied clinical trials and observational studies, including the UK
Multicentre Aneurysm Screening Study (MASS), the UK Endovascular Aneurysm
Repair Trials and novel trials of health promotion and self-help via
internet websites in the area of excessive alcohol consumption. There is
also the opportunity to undertake related methodological projects
We welcome applications from both recent post-docs and candidates with
significant relevant post doc experience. For those that have recently
obtained a post doc qualification we will offer a Career Development
Fellowship, which will be a training and developmental post. Alternatively,
applications made by individuals with extensive relevant post doc experience
will be considered. In either case, this will be a three years fixed term
contract funded by grants from the MRC and Imperial College.
The ideal candidate should have either a PhD in Statistics, or an MSc in
Statistics and some experience. You will need experience in statistical
packages, such as STATA or R.

inside and outside the unit; to be a committed team member with flexible
approach to work; to be well organised; to give attention to detail and to
have high standards.
