This piece was actually issued as one of a cased set of replica Cornish mining tokens of different designs, and was sold in various outlets besides the museum. The CCC, of course, not only denotes that it was not an original, but also indicates that it was part of this series of replicas which, unlike forgeries, were not intended to deceive the unwary. Unfortunately, most have now been removed from the cases and a certain amount of false 'wear' applied to give the impression at first glance as being an original token, prior to being sold on the market as such.
