GRADUATE TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIP: ITALIAN
The School of Modern Languages is would like to appoint a Graduate
Teaching Assistant in Italian. The post would commence 1 September
2008 and would be tenable for three years with an option to extend for
a further year.
? Salary of £12K per annum (or AHRC equivalent)
? Teaching requirement: maximum 10 hours per week
? Registration for PhD within the School; fees waived throughout
? Option to participate in tHE scheme (Teaching in Higher Education
certificate)
? Must be a native speaker of Italian
The successful candidate would become part of a vibrant, supportive
and highly motivated team. The School offers Italian at Joint Honours
and Minor level and provides a broad programme of literary, historical
and cultural modules.
As well as providing supervision in Italian, the School offers
expertise in a variety of areas and would welcome applications from
candidates who wish to pursue interdisciplinary or comparative
research. The School offers supervision in the following areas:

? Postmodernism
? Memory and history in contemporary fiction
? Representation of space and the image of the city in Italian fiction
? Relationship between literature and visual arts
GERMAN STUDIES
? Post-War German poetry
? Austrian writing since 1945
? Literary journals of the post-war period
? Cultural and national identity in German and Austrian literature
? East German studies
? Youth culture in post-war Germany
? Identity and cultural studies in post-war Germany
? German Romanticism
? German-Spanish literary relations
FRENCH STUDIES
? Nineteenth-century French literature (post-1850)
? Aesthetics of voice
? Poetry and Music
? Avant-garde literature of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries
? French film
HISPANIC STUDIES
? Galician studies
? Translation studies
? Twentieth-century peninsular literature
? Feminist literary criticism
? Twentieth-century Catalan literature
