Hi Amanda
That was a ratio put forward by the RCN and Wessex Health Authority many years ago. The more recent approach is based on need.
E.g. I cover 2700 staff. Based on the previous ratio's I should have 2.7 nurses and I have 1.5. We are not short staffed because I do not do any of the kind of work NHS OHN's do.
You need to carry out a needs assessment and make you case based on that.
Sue

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] OHA/Employee ratio
Does anyone know where I can find out what the recomendations are? I seem to remember 1 qualified OHA per 1000 employees but can't seem to find it anywhere
