Having in my early youth run a pit pony to supply one of the last
"hand-got" longwalls (on which I later worked) and now trying to
reconstruct the harness in 3-D models I don't recall the total
geometry, exactly but it included a pole behind the pony that
attached to the rump harness and the chains that went up to the
collar. The pole, that ran just below the docked tail of the pony
had an attaching ring in the center, to which the chains or ball of
the tubs could be attached. It was possible to "ride the limmers"
though severely frowned on, as I recall.
