With the updates we released yesterday, all OpenAthens sites can appear
as themselves in WAYF lists.

They login either using an Athens login or through the UK federation by
selecting "Eduserv Athens" from the UK federation WAYF.

Hi Jane,
Thanks. Those which are using 3rd party providers such as the Eduserv
Athens
do not appear in the uk federation WAYF list. How do they login when
they
need to access a Shib protected service ?
Best Regards,
Thierry.

Hi Thierry
Yes, it might be that they have outsourced their IdP to a third party
provider eg. Eduserv Athens, have decided to outsource their IdP but
haven't
yet chosen one or are still in the process of sorting out their LDAP
directory and implementing their IdP. To see which institutions have
chosen
Eduserv Athens as their IdP you can look in the metadata file available
on
the UK federation website
http://metadata.ukfederation.org.uk/ukfederation-metadata.xml (search
for
"Athens/Shibboleth gateway").
Message to everyone on the list:
All UK further and higher education institutions (except those few that
have
decided to only use IP access) must join the UK federation by 31st July
whether they are using an outsourced IdP or have implemented their own
IdP
otherwise their users will lose access to resources. It is therefore
very
important for UK institutions to join the UK federation and either
choose an
outsourced IdP or have implemented their own IdP by 31st July (or
sooner).
Kind regards,
Jane

I've implemented and automated the above using some some XSLT, MySQL and
PHP. This then creates a shibboleth ACL in xml format which I can use to
authorise HE & HE only.
Looking at the stats, there are 170 HE institutions in the JISC banding
and
only 61 have an IDP. There are 465 FE institutions in the JISC banding
and
only 18 have an IDP. Many of those which do not have an IDP seem to be
members of the UK federation. Is there any reason why they are not
installing an IDP ?
