Figures will be in papers by Prof Schmidt from the Charite Hospital in
Berlin. Don't have them on the tip of my tongue (or fingers!). There is a
characteristic "halo" sign around the artery and you can see reduced flow in
the artery using power Doppler. The artery wall can be thickened but that's
sometimes more difficult to be certain about.

some places now do temporal artery ultrasound either as an alternative to
biopsy or as a guide to where to do the biopsy. It reduces the false
negative "skip lesion" biopsy and is non-invasive. Haven't ultrasounded a
tongue yet though.
