*TWO YEAR (contract) LECTURESHIP *

The Irish Social Sciences Platform (ISSP) is a collaborative initiative 
funded by the Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions 
(PRTLI), €16.5m, which supports research on the social, cultural and 
economic transformation shaping Ireland in the 21st century. The 
National Institute for Regional and Spatial Analysis (NIRSA), which 
embraces researchers from the National University of Ireland Maynooth, 
the Institute of Technology Sligo, Mary Immaculate College Limerick and 
Queens University Belfast, is a founding partner of the ISSP. NIRSA is 
now inviting applications from suitable candidates for a two year 
lectureship to develop its graduate programme. The post will be based in 
NUI Maynooth

The appointed person will be expected to:

    * Develop, contribute to and administer NIRSA’s graduate education
      programme (to include generic research skills)
    * Develop, contribute to and administer NIRSA’s MA programme to
      start Sept 2009 (working title: MA in Researching Society and Space).
    * Liaise with constituent departments in NUIM about graduate education
    * Recruit students for NIRSA’s graduate programmes
    * Take an active role in the development of the NUIM Social Sciences
      Graduate School and coordinate NIRSA involvement in the School
    * Be the NUIM representative on the ISSP Graduate Committee
    * Coordinate the NUIM participation in the ISSP GREP
    * Take an active role in ISSP GREP activities including the Summer
      and Winter School
    * Continue developing an active research profile and contribute to
      NIRSA’s research programmes

Candidates are expected to have completed a PhD in a relevant 
discipline, to demonstrate a strong track record of research excellence, 
to have teaching experience at undergraduate and graduate level, and 
have a range of methodological competences. They should have a 
demonstrated expertise in one or more of the three research foci of 
NIRSA: Balanced Development, Sustaining Communities, Knowledge Societies.

suitability and ambitions for the post, a full CV, and a future career

postdoctoral fellowships funded as part of the ISSP programme. These 
scholarships are all based in NUI Maynooth, with one being tied to each 
of the three research groups:


· *Balanced development,* with particular reference to city-regions in 
Ireland; the clustering potential of small- and medium-sized towns on 
the island of Ireland; and integrated cross-border planning

· *The knowledge society*, with particular reference to clusters, 
corporations and technical communities; migrant media practices; and 
empowerment and participation in the knowledge economy

· *Sustainable communities*, with particular reference to the building 
of sustainable communities in the Irish context; incorporating the 
challenges facing community building in an era of rapid neighbourhood 
change, dynamic and historically novel housing market trends, 
significant migrant movements and new forms of mobility; and widening 
health inequalities and health care reforms.

Candidates are expected to have completed a PhD in a relevant discipline 
and to demonstrate a strong track record of research excellence.
