The Health Protection Agency (HPA) is an independent body that protects the health and well-being of everyone in England and Wales. The Agency plays a critical role in protecting people from infectious diseases and in preventing harm when hazards involving chemicals, poisons or radiation occur. We also prepare for new and emerging threats, such as a bio-terrorist attack or a virulent new strain of pathogen.

The post-holder will develop models of Chlamydia trachomatis natural history, transmission and control programmes in the UK. This will involve collating and analysing data for model parameters as well as constructing suitable mathematical models to simulate Chlamydia trachomatis epidemiology and control strategies. This post carries considerable potential for original work and requires a high degree of personal motivation. The post-holder will be hosted by the Modelling and Economics Unit at CfI, but will be working closely with the National Chlamydia Screening Programme Team and colleagues in the HIV/STI Department.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Epidemiology or relevant higher degree, with at least two years' post-graduate experience of scientific or research work. You will be a good communicator and problem solver; as well as having good interpersonal skills and use of initiative.

The Centre for Infections at Colindale, NW London is an internationally renowned centre of excellence for expertise, reference and research, surveillance and epidemiology in relation to micro-organisms that affect human health. The modern purpose built centre is well equipped and staffed and provides excellent Library, Occupational Health and Refectory facilities. There is also a nursery and gym Site.

For an informal discussion about this post, interested applicants should contact Kate Soldan, Senior Scientist, on 0208 327 7418.
