We are seeking 10 participants for a two-week design workshop in the
village of Yahsibey, in Dikili, near Izmir, Turkey, from 15 to 28 June
2008 (the new correct date.)
The topic of the workshop is 'Design for Cultural Heritage' and we will
use the nearby historical site of Pergammum (Bergama, Turkey) as a case
study example.

sea” are key words that hopefully describe the approach of the workshop.
Participants should be, at least, 3rd or 4th year undergraduate students
or graduate students from the design or allied disciplines interested in
doing a design project about cultural heritage.
There is no charge for the workshop. Participants must pay for their own
travel and living expenses (e.g. food), although accomodation and other
basic facilities are provided free.
Please apply with your CV directly to the project leader, Alex Velasco.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Every summer, the Emre Senan Foundation for Design hold the Yahsibey
Design Workshops in the village of Yahsibey, in the beautiful
surroundings of Dikili, on the Aegean coast of Turkey. Designers,
academics and theoreticians of different design disciplines are invited
to be project leaders and give workshops. This year, I have been invited
and am honoured to conduct a workshop on 'Design for Cultural Heritage.'
More about the Yahsibey Design Workshops:
http://www.yahsiworkshops.com/
The workshop will take place from 15 to 28 June 2008. The subject is
'design,' but the topic is 'cultural heritage' and we will visit the
nearby historical site of Pergammum (Bergama) and study it as our case
study example. The workshop language will be English.
This is a strategic design project that ranges from the context of
design to the concept. We will work in a group and employ a reflective
design process to analyse the experience of visitors to cultural
historic sites and to develop product or service concepts that meet
their needs. Creativity techniques and design methodology will be used
in a way that is fresh and stimulates us to develop imaginative and
innovative design solutions by applying any and all disciplines of design.
The workshop is located in the village of Yahsibey on the Aegean coast
of Turkey. 10 students and 1 supervisor will be sharing the facilities,
cooking and eating together. There will be ample time for sightseeing
and enjoying the sun and sea.
TRAVEL AND LIVING EXPENSES
There is no charge for the workshop. As a participant, you must pay for
your own travel to and from the village of Yahsibey.
You will pay for all your own travel costs, food, and entrance tickets
to Pergamum etc., although living expenses and holidaying in Turkey is
relatively cheap. Travel insurance and medical insurance are your own
responsibility.
The workshop building is a somewhat 'spartan' architectural design
award-winning facility with studio, garden, swimming pool, bedrooms,
bathrooms, kitchen etc.
