Overview
Shortlisted candidates invited to interview will be required to:
1. Deliver a 20 minute interactive teaching session with students on
an aspect of teaching digital film production (further details will be
supplied to shortlisted candidates)
2. Deliver a 10 minute presentation to the interview panel on
'developing employer links, commercial initiatives and student
employability in an HE context in the digital film subject area'.
We wish to appoint an experienced lecturer and practitioner in Digital
Film Production to lead and contribute to further developments in film
production as part of the department's strategic initiative to grow
this subject area as professionally-astute, employer-led, and
academically strong. The post will add HE and professional expertise
to curriculum development, including at Masters level, establish
employer links and student placements/projects, work to enhance the
enterprise initiatives from the area, build community links and help
to establish such events as screening festivals and film-making
workshops. The post will also contribute to the teaching and
development of other courses in the department. The successful
candidate will hold a postgraduate qualification in an area of Digital
Film Production, and have good HE teaching experience. They will also
have experienced of professional practice. Expertise in sound and / or
one or more of the following areas; film art, screenwriting or
directing for the screen would be useful.
Background
Digital Film Production is located in the Digital Arts Centre, which
opened in 2003 and has students studying on a range of undergraduate
programmes including Digital Film Production, Animation, Graphic
Design and Multimedia, and Creative Digital Media. The Division of
Drama, Performance and Film forms a part of the Department of Arts,
Humanities and Social Sciences and offers both well-established and
newly developed provision in Digital Film Production, Film Studies,
Screen writing and Drama & Performance and staff work closely with
colleagues across the department, particularly those in Art and
Design, Media & Cultural Studies, Journalism, and English.
The Digital Arts Centre houses a range of digital media equipment from
multimedia computers, scanners and printers to sound and video
recording and editing equipment in specialist studios. There is a
large digitally enhanced performance / video recording space with
lighting rigs, blue screen technology and a full industry standard
recording studio. All the facilities are designed to allow the
production of innovative and creative work using current software.
Facilities include:
· Digital Video Studio with lighting rigs, blue screen technology
· Digital Video Editing
· Sound Recording Studio
· Multimedia Computer Suites with industry-standard software
· Screening Room
The Video Studio is also linked to the Drama Studio and a successful
SRIF bid enabled the purchase of equipment to enhance research between
Drama, Digital Film and new media, The department of Arts, Humanities
and Social Sciences has been identified as one of the key areas to be
relocated to the new Castle Street site in Worcester city centre in
the next few years, a rich opportunity that will see the evolution of
a new Arts and Performance sector.
Main duties
1. To teach on the generic mandatory modules including the supervision
of independent studies, and contribute specialist teaching interests,
at all undergraduate levels, and across appropriate department
courses.
3. To make a significant contribution to the development and growth of
the Digital Film Production undergraduate course, and lead on new
initiatives including at postgraduate level.
4. To contribute as appropriate to commercial, community, short course
and professional development initiatives and projects in the subject
and particularly the opportunities offered by the new site at Castle
Street.
5. To undertake research and professional practice, towards
publications and projects, and to participate in learning and teaching
developments (including e-learning) and income-generating activities
as appropriate and agreed by the line manager.
6. To undertake all activities associated with a lecturing post,
including preparation of materials, student tutorials, marking,
attendance at committees and meetings, staff development, open days
and schools visits, international activities, widening participation
and outreach activities, day and summer schools, as appropriate and
agreed with the line manager.
7. To undertake leadership and administrative duties for the Division
and Department, as required by the line manager, and attend all
appropriate committees and meetings

Person Specification
Essential
1. A good first degree and a postgraduate qualification in an area of
Digital Film Production
2. Record of professional and/or industry experience and an ability to
lead on commercially-orientated projects
3. Successful experience of teaching in the area of Digital Film
Production in HE and a positive and innovative approach to teaching
and assessment
4. Commitment to undertaking practice-based enquiry or research both
to inform your own teaching and/or practice in the field.
5. Experience in course and curriculum development at HE level
6. Excellent communication skills (oral and written); excellent
interpersonal skills and a commitment to team work and
multi-disciplinary work
7. Ability to use information/communication technology to support
teaching and a willingness to develop on-line teaching materials
Desirable
1. A completed or nearly-completed PhD in a relevant area
2. A proven record of research or strong potential to develop an
appropriate research profile, and evidence of future publication
intentions
3. Experience of developing community based extramural activity and
industry training programmes
4. At least 3 years full time experience of teaching within higher
education, and an accredited teaching qualification for the higher
education environment or registered practitioner status with the H E
Academy. If these conditions are not fully met then completion of the
probationary period will be dependent on the successful completion of
the Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher
Education which is delivered within University of Worcester.
