This is the official website of the EU Election Observation Mission to Nepal 2008. It provides information on the background and aims of the mission and its activities. It includes free access to photographs of the polling, EU press releases and documents analysing the state of the electoral system, democracy and conduct of the Nepalese elections.

The Canada Year book is a major source of official social and economic statistics about life in Canada. This site, maintained by Statistics Canada, provides free access to a full text searchable version of all editions of the yearbook from 1867-1967. This offers a fascinating insight into trends. Key areas include the census and population data, immigration trends, family and household composition, information about elections, government economic and financial statistics, labour and employment trends and statistics relating to womens rights and changing roles in society. In addition to maps, charts and statistical tables, the site also offers essays, teachers plans and links to other Canadian statistical websites.

GeoSearch news is maintained by US company MetaCarta. It provides free access to an online news service which maps news headlines and stories onto geographical location. Over 1,400 news sources and blogs are continuously indexed, including Reuters and Associated Press stories. These are then plotted on Google Maps. Users may search by place name and subject category (eg science, technology, politics) to retrieve headlines and maps. There are links to other news stories mentioning the same place. Materials can be searched for the last calendar month. Copyright and technical information is displayed on the website.

This website provides information on journal rankings using the SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) indicator, developed by SCImago( a research group from the University of Granada, Extremadura, Carlos III (Madrid) and Alcalá de Henares) it provides data on the visibility (impact and citation rankings) of titles in the Scopus database from 1996 to the present day. It therefore acts as a free alternative to the ISI Journal Citation Reports. It is possible to search the database by journal title, keyword, subject and country and to view online reports on citations and cited references. The site also offers the facility to generate graphs comparing nations and titles. Information on methodology is provided on the website. A wide range of scientific and social science subjects are covered ranging from economics, to media studies. However, coverage is generally stronger and more comprehensive in scientific and technical areas.

An institutional repository maintained by Rhodes university South Africa which provides free access to abstracts and full text research outputs from staff and researchers based there. These include articles, conference papers, theses, and book chapters. Most materials date from 2004 onwards, although a selection of older materials can also be accessed. A wide range of subject areas from the sciences, social sciences and humanities are covered including politics, development studies, economics and finance, education and geography. There is a extensive coverage of issues relating to political, social and economic development in Africa; South Africa, Zimbabwe and Lesotho.

Manifestipolitici.it is an online database of contemporary political and social posters about and from Italy which is maintained by the The Istituto Nazionale Gramsci in Emilia-Romagna using information from a number of leading Italian archives and research institutions. It contains records and images of over 10,000 political posters, postcards and fliers dating from the 19th Century to the present day which would be of great value to researchers and students of Italian politics, political communication and social history. Topics covered include political posters produced by political parties, fascist propaganda, materials relating to Mussolini and election campaigns. The database may be searched or browsed. Each entry contains bibliographic details and a link to the digital image. Most descriptions are offered in Italian only. The website also offers bibliographies of further readings.

Arab Political Parties Studies (APPS) is a research project launched in 2006 by The Lebanese Center for Policy Studies (LCPS- Beirut) with the partnership of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC-Canada). It focuses on the 6 nations of : Algeria, Bahrain, Iraq, Lebanon, Morocco, and Yemen, analysing the development of political parties in these regions and their role in the democratisation process. A major focus of interest is the rise and role of political Islam in the Middle East. The website provides information on the aims and progress of the project. It includes some full text papers and reports.

The John Johnson Collection is based at the Bodelian Library, University of Oxford. It was originally assembled by John de Monins Johnson (1882-1956) and contains a wealth of materials. This digital programme is being funded by JISC to offer access online to more than 65,000 items. These fall into 5 main categories: entertainment (the theatre and popular culture); book trade and publishing; popular prints; crime, murders and executions and advertising. Together they provide an excellent resource for social, economic and political historians of British history of the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. Images include prints, cartoons, posters, advertisements. License and copyright information is displayed on the website. Access is currently offered free of charge to all UK HE and FE academic institutions and public libraries.

OpenLearn is a website produced by the Open University in the UK, that is making available free of charge thousands of hours of educational content to learners and educators interested in studying subjects at a higher education level. This section provides free access to an online course about using and interpreting charts, graphs and tables. It will be of most use to students who haven't used data in this way for some time and need to brush up quickly. The course is clearly outlined and includes online readings and exercises for self paced distance learning. There is an extensive list of references for further reading. Topics covered include: making sense of data displayed in different formats and interpreting graphs and charts. There is a follow-up course that covers the topics in more detail.

Persee is a portal to entire back runs of French language social and human sciences journals. It was launched in 2004 by the French Ministry of National Education, Higher Education and Research. Subject areas covered include Anthropology, law, politics; history, sociology and geography. It includes the full text of the Revue française de science politique from 1951 to 5 years behind the current date. Free access is guaranteed to back issues only. Most titles operate on a rolling wall basis with new articles being added annually but always remaining 3-5 years behind the current date. All articles are in French only.
