Cathie (and all) - I've responded to the above posting at:
http://www.jackwhitehead.com/jack/jwdeleuze1esem.doc.htm
I've explained why I distinguish educational research from social
science research with a flow of life-affirming energy and believe that
I am making a contribution as an active citizen through seeking to
bring living standards of judgment into the Academy that carry hope
for the future of humanity and my own. I've asked for your help in
checking that I am not mistaken in continuing to hold to these two
beliefs in my research programme. I've related the points about
judgment to a point made by Moira about the video of the recent
keynote I presented and to Deleuze's point:
'Herein, perhaps, lies the secret: to bring into existence and not to
judge. It is so disgusting to judge, it is not because everything is
of equal value, but on the contrary because what has value can be made
or distinguished only by defying judgment. What expert judgment, in
art, could every bear on the work to come?' (Deleuze, 1997, p. 135)
Deleuze, G. (1997) Essays Critical and Clinical, trans. Daniel W.
Smith and Michael A. Greco, Minneapolis: University of Minnesota Press.
and concluded with a delightful note Pete sent to me about respect.
Love Jack.
