Dear All,
To celebrate the great work that audio-visual practise-led students,
supervisors and examiners have been doing over the past few years, the
AVPhD steering group are curating a week long exhibition at
Westminster's expansive P3 gallery. Described as, "a major new space
for London" (Janet Street-Porter) with "boundless potential" (David
Ward) we are looking for films, audio, visual and AV installations to
inspire and re-imagine this once redundant cement testing factory.
The projects may come from any discipline, be a professional or
academic doctorate, but they must have been successfully examined by
the time of the exhibition.
What you need to know:
When? First two weeks in December 2008
Where? www.p3exhibitions.com, opposite Baker Street Tube, London
Cost? All project hosting and publicity costs will be covered.
What you need to do:
If you are (or plan on being by Dec 08) an AVPhD doctor and can
imagine your work in P3 (NB films intended for cinemas will also be
comfortably accommodated either within the gallery or at a nearby
cinema), send your initial expression of interest with summary of
proposed work (and a weblink if possible) to the AVPhD administrator,
Zemirah Moffat ([log in to unmask]) by Wednesday 14th May, 08.

A) Call for AVPhD appropriate reviews
We are looking for reviews of installations, films and books that are
relevant to the world of audio-visual practise-led doctorates for the
AVPhD dedicated edition of the Journal of Media Practice, to coincide
with the AVPhD final exhibition. If you are inspired to write 500
words on anything you have seen, read or experienced that may be
relevant, please send suggestions to editors Gail Pearce
([log in to unmask]) or Tony Dowmunt ([log in to unmask]) by
Wednesday 14th May, 08. Please note the final reviews will be needed
by June 14th, 08.
B) AVPhD REGIONAL WORKSHOPS
1) Newport's Research Connections to Practice, 16th-17th May 08 To

2) Tyne and Wear's AVPhD Audio, 4th July 08 With keynotes from
Professor Beryl Graham and Larry Sider, this event at the University
of Sunderland, will act as a forum for North East practise-led
researchers, supervisors and examiners with a focus on the audio of
AVPhDs. To submit a presentation proposal and to register please
contact Nick Cope ([log in to unmask]). Keynote speakers are
Larry Sider, Director of the School of Sound Symposium and Head of
Post-Production at the National Film and Television School (UK) until
2006. And Beryl Graham, Professor of New Media Art at the School of
Art, Design and Media, University of Sunderland, and co-editor of
CRUMB.
They are also looking for Practice as Research Models and Examples,
particularly Sound based projects based in the UK. We also welcome any
practise-based projects based in the North East. Two panels will run
during the day offering the opportunity for a number of 20 minute
research presentations in any mode of expression (ranging from papers,
workshops, exhibitions, discussion groups, demonstrations,
performances and so forth) from recent PhD graduates, current
students, staff and workers in the Audio- Visual media on the above
themes, or on any other aspect of the AVPhD process.
C) IRISH ACTION
1) The Dublin Institute of Technology has extended its deadline for
practise-led doctoral scholarships until 23rd May 2008. Please go to

2) And Queen's University, Belfast has several positions opening up in
film studies: two posts for lecturers in film and as a teaching fellow
in film practice. Please see below for more information.
