The Librarian, the Library & Becoming Media Literate, 24th April 2008, The Cornerhouse, Manchester
This one day course wil help school, college, university and children’s librarians to be more aware of the media young people are using, and how they can play a central role in teaching them how to use different media effectively and appropriately. In addition, thinking about media and audience can help librarians to gain a deeper understanding of their younger users and potential users.

Making Memories Live On: Engaging young people in oral history, Doncaster, 19th May 2008
For anyone with an oral history collection or wanting to exlore new methods of community engagement. This one day seminar will examine the practical aspects of conducting an oral history project with young people as well as allowing those who have already carried out successful projects to share their experiences, explain the potential pitfalls and illustrate the benefts of this type of work.

Telling Tales, Bridge 5 Mill, Manchester, 8th May 2008
As well as storytelling from books, the day will include sessions on oral retelling and using rhymes and poetry. It also covers many practical points such as organising a programme, holding children’s interest, and dealing with interruptions. There’ll be a display of recommended titles to use, and a number of handouts giving story suggestions, useful organisations, and further sources of help. The training will be lead by Alec Williams, a freelance storyteller and author and speaker on storytelling, Alec also has many years’ experience of public and school libraries; his courses are rich in examples, humour, anecdotes and extracts.
