Comments: Greetings!! Im a academic Librarian in a
non-sectarian university here in the Philippines... ...im
currently working on my thesis proposal for my MA degree
in Library Science...it aims to assess the information
literacy skills of freshmen students hir in our
university... the result of the assessment will be my
basis for my proposal for the creation of info lit
committee( collaboration between librarians, faculty
members, academe, and IT dept) the committee will
spearhead the promotion of info lit campuswide(a seemingly
imposible ordeal coz info lit is such an alien concept
hir) Aside from the creation of a info lit committee, my
study is also aiming for the ff: 1. creation of a user
focused reference and info. services 2. integration of
info lit into the university currculum 3. Regular
assessment of the info lit skills of Freshmen students 4.
Creation of a curriculum integrated info lit module (note:
all to be supervised by the info lit commitee)
....................... May i have d assistance of the
commitee to pls. help me in my ordeal... ..i wud lyk To
request for a copy of a information literacy assessment
tool(specifically tailored for college freshmen
students)....one which i can adopt into our present
community set-up( an academic set-up which the concept of
info lit had eversinced never existed) i would like to
back-up my advocacy with hard facts.... and having a
strong and up to date test instrument will enable me to
achieve such a goal. To standardize and further equipt my
study i'll be using the Info lit standards for higher
education forged by ACRL and the standards for info
service providers created by IFLA.... my study will evolve
within the following thoughts about info lit: INFO LIT IS
AN ESSENTIAL TOOL FOR LIFELONG LEARNING.... TO EFFECTIVELY
PROMOTE SUCH A CONCEPT..WE LIBRARIANS MUST FORGE
PARTNERSHIPS NOT ONLY WITH THE ACADEME...BUT ALSO WITH
OTHER SECTORS OF THE SOCIETY(THE BUSINESS SECTOR, MEDIA,
GOVERNMENT INSTITUTIONS ETC.).... FOR INFO LIT IS NOT A
LIBRARY ISSUE...ITS A GLOBAL PHENOMENA... ITS THE CONCERN
OF EVERYONE...AND INDEED ITS THE LAST FRONTEIR FOR US
LIBRARIANS.... thank u very much.... (p.s.: let me share
my service motto:) "The library is the agency of the
people, for the people and by the people" again, thank u
very much...
