Scottish Premiere of 'The Hollywood Librarian'
Tuesday 06 May 2008
Gilmorehill G12, 9 University Avenue, Glasgow, G12 8QQ.
18.30pm - 21.30pm
CILIP in Scotland and the Career Development Group (Scottish Division) are proud to announce the forthcoming Scottish screening of 'The Hollywood Librarian: A Look at Librarians through Film' (www.hollywoodlibrarian.com) at Gilmorehill G12 (www.gilmorehillg12.co.uk/).
The Hollywood Librarian is a full-length documentary, directed by librarian Ann Seidl, focusing on how librarians are portrayed in American movies. There are many examples of libraries and librarians on screen - some positive, some negative, some laughable and some dead wrong! This film is a unique and charming blend of film clips, humour and critical analysis of the popular image of librarians.
Dozens of interviews of real librarians are interwoven with movie clips of cinematic librarians and serve as transitions between the themes of censorship, intellectual freedom, children and librarians, pay equity and funding issues, and the value of reading. This film reveals the diversity of individual librarians and the importance of what they do.
The cost of this event is £3.00, payable in cash on the night. Booking for this event is essential as places are limited.
All monies will go towards CDG international charity projects, including support for the VSO Librarian in Tanzania and work as part of the African Prisons Project (APP).
Event Programme
18.30 - Doors open/registration
19.30 - 21.10 - Showing of the film
Venue available until 21.30. Join us for a drink if you can!
