King's College London is jointly sponsoring with Thomson Scientific a one
day event on 30th April entitled "Beyond the RAE 2008: Bibliometrics, League
Tables and the REF"
Details and registration can be found at http://scientific.thomson.com/kcl/
This timely event focuses on the increasing importance of bibliometric data
in the controversial university ranking systems and the proposed use of
citation data for the research output aspect of the Research Excellence
Framework (REF), the successor to the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE).
The aim of the meeting is to consider uses of citation data in research
evaluation, to provide a forum for representatives of UK universities to
discuss and plan for future evaluative activities, and to encourage best
practice in managing and utilising the data to best advantage.
The intended audience is information professionals and others within HE
institutions responsible for collecting and managing research output
metadata.
Speakers will represent the stakeholders in UK research evaluation and case
studies from three UK HEIs will be presented.

Andria
