An international conference titled “Bridging the Digital Divide in Rural
Communities: Practical Solutions and Policies” is organised in Athens,
Greece, on 15th – 16th May 2008, by pioneering projects aiming to propose
solutions for the fight against the Digital Divide in Europe. The conference
aims to bring together academics, agents of applied research, field
practitioners, and policy makers from Europe and beyond, who share an
interest in promoting the utilization of Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) Services by rural citizens of all ages. Conference
participants will present the outcomes of their applied projects or academic
endeavours, share their experiences from this work, and discuss towards
drawing common conclusions and formulating recommendations for the future.
Speakers will include, among others, renowned international academics and EU
representatives.
***Submissions
A limited number of papers will be selected and presented. You are invited
to submit your proposal for a paper presentation, in the form of an abstract
of 400-700 words, by 21st March 2008 (extended deadline), via email to
[log in to unmask], explaining clearly the scope, background, and assets or
findings of the work presented. Authors of accepted submissions will be
notified by 31st March 2008, and asked to prepare and hand in their final
papers by 23rd April 2008. Conference papers submitted within the deadlines
will be professionally published in an edited Book of Proceedings with ISBN,
copies of which will be distributed to the conference participants and a
large number of international points of interest (academic libraries,
stakeholders, policy makers, etc.). The official languages of the
organization are English and Greek. Interpretation from and into these
languages will be available in the international sessions. However, all
abstracts and papers are to be submitted in English.
