Shaping Our Lives in the UK has just started a new project with The
Centre For Citizen Participation, Brunel University and Social
Perspectives Network to survey of user-controlled research projects for
an organisation called INVOLVE which works to increase user involvement
in health, social care and public health research.
We would greatly value your help. We hope that taking part in the
project will also be helpful to you, particularly as a way of letting
more people know about work that you have done. We want to know about
all user-controlled research projects in the UK that have been completed
since 2002, and especially current projects and those completed within
the last year.
We recognise that much research takes place in small groups and
organisations that may have limited resources and mixed experiences of
being researched, so please let us know if you would like any help with
sharing information or have any questions about how and why we are
carrying out this work.
The information we gather will be sent to INVOLVE for consideration for
inclusion on their web-based database. This database contains examples
of public involvement in health and social care related research
projects. You can find the database at: www.invo.org.uk
The questionnaire for the survey is available to complete online at
www.pmhcwn.org.uk/involve.asp or it can be downloaded from
www.spn.org.uk
We are happy to give any other assistance that will make it easier for
you to respond to the survey. This could include going through the form
together by telephone or in some instances in person.

This project is one of two projects being commissioned by INVOLVE. The
other project, based at Bristol University, is seeking examples of user
involvement in social care research. If your research involves service
users but you don't feel it is user-controlled, please see
