Dear Declan,
Thank you very much for your email and support. To give you a better
idea of what we are hoping to do I have attached the rough draft of the
proposal. Three points immediately come to my mind. One, have you been
using complexity ideas/principles/tools to shape your health policy
proposals (if so I would be very interested to see your proposals and
share ideas with you). Two, my colleague (Helen Cooper) and I recently
wrote a book on diabetes management and complexity where we were trying
to bring theory and practice together in a readable format. The book is
called, Riding the Diabetes Rollercoaster and the details and a sample
chapter are on:
http://www.radcliffe-oxford.com/books/bookdetail.aspx?ISBN=1846190452
If you are interested, I could send you a few more chapters. I would be
very curious to hear what you thought about the book. Three, if you know
of anyone else in Ireland who may be interested in attending can you
please pass on my message. I need to get a list of 25 participants by
Friday! Again, thanks for your original reply and for any further help
you can give.
Sincerely, Robert

Dear Robert,
I am a GP in Ireland (Rep. of I.) with a long standing interest in
Complexity especially in relation to health policy. I am a former chair
and also president of the Irish College of General Practitioners, and
was a member of a small group that devised health policy for the main
opposition political party (Fine Gael) in Ireland in the last two
general elections (both of which we lost!). I gave the Foundation
Lecture at the ICGP AGM in
2006 on the topic 'Consulting with complexity'. I am a full time
journey-man GP (and trainer), with virtually no research experience, and
am an enthusiast but not a professional in the complexity field.
However I would be fascinated by the conference you are organizing, and
would have an interest in hearing about it regardless of the ESF
funding.
Yours Sincerely,
(Dr.) Declan Murphy.

Dear listmembers,
I need your help with a complexity and health workshop. Helen Cooper and
I are organising a 2 and 1/2 day workshop on complexity and European
health policy in Spring/Summer 2009 at Lancaster University UK and are
applying for funding from the European Science Foundation. They will
fully fund 25 participants from outside of the UK, but within Europe.
However, they need a preliminary list of participants to be sent with
the application and it is due by the end of this week. If you are
outside of the UK but based in Europe, work on Complexity and health and
would like to attend, can you please send me an email with your name,
affiliation and details and we will put you on the list. Thank you for
your time and attention.
Best, Robert Geyer

Thanks for this Peter
I'm conscious that this list has been somewhat dormant for the last year
or two.
Has complexity gone to sleep?
Are people working on things which are just bubbling under?
How has the field moved on?
Go on folks, rouse the slumbering giant, and send the list a paragraph
on how you see complexity developing in healthcare.
