KEELE CAMPAIGN: URGENT FINANCIAL APPEAL FROM BUIRA FOR HALF-PAGE PROTEST IN GUARDIAN
Dear colleagues and friends,
The British Universities Industrial Relations Association (BUIRA) needs your financial
help to raise the tempo of the growing and worldwide opposition to the proposed job cuts
at Keele University.
We want to take out a half-page display in the Guardian (page 2 or 3 of the main paper) on
Tues (Education Guardian day!), 6th May. The display will lead with the heading, ‘Critical
thinking under attack in universities’, followed by a brief explanation of what is
happening at Keele and why it is important to resist the threatened cuts by Janet Finch
and co. We will accompany this with details of ‘what you can do to protest’. We are also
hoping to print a selection of names from the 450 + signatories to our open letter of
protest.
We need to raise £7450 very quickly to do this, especially as the Guardian requires
pre-payment. We are making an urgent appeal for financial donations to all those appalled
at the Keele jobs threat, and especially to the 450+ open letter signatories.
