Thursday 8th May Deception and Dishonesty with Data
5pm-6pm Seminar, David Hand
6pm-7pm Wine and Cheese Reception
Room C12, Maths and Physics Building, University of Nottingham, NG7 2RD
Abstract: One popular image of scientists is that they are disinterested
searchers for truth. The fact is, however, that scientists are also human,
and subject to the same pressures and temptations as everyone else. It is
therefore hardly surprising that fraud sometimes occurs in science, just as
it does in every other walk of life. In this talk I look at different kinds
of scientific fraud, why the fraud occurs, its extent, what can be done to
minimise it, and its possible implications for the scientific endeavour. I
illustrate with a few real cases of fraud in science.
I do hope you will be able to join us for this event.
Many thanks,
Chris Brignell
