We've just re-jigged an old script to calculate the Total Tariff Score, but
it's not helpful it not being provided in *j.
I raised this at a UCAS presentation (UCAS data for HESA) at the Student
Records Officers Conference in March. There didn't seem to be much
awareness from UCAS that it would cause an issue but a show of hands of (I
think) everyone in the room in favour of getting this added back into *j
meant UCAS were taking this back for further discussion. HESA colleagues at
the session seemed happy with the idea.
Even if we calculate it ourselves I think we need it in the *j (based on
exactly the same algorithm to be used by HESA) so we can see the effect if
will have when such figures get published 2 years down the line for
newspaper league table etc.
We're also finding high numbers of unknowns (much higher than last year)
for fields such as SEC (Social Economic Classification) - I though one of
the reasons for the delay in *j was to get good data with very low levels
of unknowns (that's what were told anyway) but that doesn't appear to be
the case.
There seem to be quite a few of issues with *j

Tim
