Can anybody help me identify this vertebra? It comes from a late 17th
century AD site in Eastern Wisconsin, USA and looks like nothing I have
in my comparative collections. It is from some kind of fish; of that I
am fairly certain. However, the length to width ratio is unlike anything
I have seen. The texturing around the lateral portions remind me of some
salmoniforme vertebrae, but then there is that flatness. The large hole
in the middle appears to be a man-made modification. The bone does not
appear to be mineralized.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
