VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY - NATIONAL PORTRAIT GALLERY
We have an opportunity for an archive volunteer, initially on a three-month
fixed-term basis, for one day each week, with options for further projects
thereafter. We require a motivated individual to help the Gallery re-house
and maintain an historic series of conservation slides relating to our
Primary Collection of portraits. The work will involve organising and
filing images produced as a result of conservation interventions into a
large series organised by acquisition number. This series is used by
Gallery staff and independent conservators and is subject to constant
expansion and refinement. Volunteer work will therefore involve on-going
maintenance and re-ordering. Appropriate materials and on the job training
will be provided by Archive staff.
It is possible that following completion of this project our chosen
volunteer will have the opportunity to continue their placement with us and
be given further tasks outside the initial remit of their role; perhaps
cataloguing to agreed standards using our CALM for Archives system. We
therefore seek applicants with a definite interest in archive work who
would enjoy working with materials relating to British portraiture and
history as part of a small team.
We welcome applications from volunteers able to commit to one day each
working week for three months in the first instance, with options to
continue.
If you are interested in this opportunity please send a CV and covering
letter explaining why you are interested in working with archives to:
Bryony Millan, Heinz Archive & Library, National Portrait Gallery, St
