As part of a Marie Curie Transfer of Knowledge Programme in Integrated
Archaeobotanical Research (IAR), the Department of Archaeology is seeking
to appoint a Marie Curie Research Fellow in Archaeobotany. The postholder
will be working as part of an international team investigating
archaeobotanical remains. Applicants should have a PhD or have 4 years
research experience in archaeobotany in one of the following fields: wood
charcoal, waterlogged remains, phytoliths or charred roots and tubers. The
postholder will be expected to work with a Senior Research Fellow to
develop interpretive frameworks integrating archaeobotanical research into
investigations of ancient economies and help to create web-based research
and research training packages for postgraduate students. Preference will
be given to candidates who are prepared to undertake training (if
necessary) in phytolith techniques. The post is tenable from 1 June 2008
for a period of 6 months with a possibility of extension subject to
funding.
Applicants must be nationals of a European or associated state other than
Britain, and must not have resided or carried out their main activities in
Britain for more than 12 months in the three years prior to the start date.
