We are seeking a full time researcher with a
strong statistical background for a project that
aims to improve the detection of child
maltreatment. This post offers an excellent
opportunity to undertake research that will have
a direct impact on clinical policy in a high-profile area.
The project brings a population-based approach to
the detection of child maltreatment within the
NHS. The successful applicant will use routine
data on hospital admissions linked to accident
and emergency attendances in London, and a
national series of serious case reviews of maltreatment.
The post is funded by the Department of Health
and is a joint initiative between the Centre for
Paediatric Epidemiology, the Clinical
Effectiveness Unit at the Royal College of
Surgeons and London School of Hygiene and
Tropical Medicine, and the Social Work and
Psychosocial Sciences at the University of East Anglia.
All applicants must have an MSc or equivalent in
statistics, epidemiology or another related
subject for this post. Applicants to be appointed
to a Research Associate (Grade 7) need to have a
PhD or equivalent qualification.
The post holder must have a strong working
knowledge of statistical methods and the use of
one or more statistical packages such as Stata,
SPSS, SAS. Experience of analysis of large datasets is essential.
Post holders with a PhD will be expected to take
a more active lead in the project and to be
involved in related funding applications. A post
holder without a PhD will have opportunities to
apply for further training as part of a PhD.
Salary will be dependant on qualifications and
experience: Research Assistant will be at Grade 6
from £23,002 - £24,403 per annum; Research
Associate will be at Grade 7 £26,666 - £32,796
per annum. London Weighting of £2,572 is paid in
addition per annum. The appointment is funded for 18 months.
