Using the ISSP and ESS: welfare provision and social inequality in a cross-national perspective
Date: 11 April 2008
Location: University of Essex
This workshop, on 11 April 2008, is intended as an introduction to the International Social Survey Programme (ISSP) and the European Social Survey (ESS) with a specific focus on: the ISSP modules on the role of government and social inequality; the 2008 ESS module on welfare; and some of the core ESS questions from the 2002, 2004 and 2006 surveys.
The day will be split into two discrete sessions. In the morning, expert presentations will introduce the two survey series and will then focus more narrowly on the particular instruments/questions that relate to the workshop's theme. Some findings using the data series will be presented. The afternoon will involve a hands-on session where participants can explore the data online. This will be preceded by a presentation introducing ESDS International and outlining how the ISSP and ESS data can be accessed.
A non-refundable fee of £60 (£30 for HE students) includes lunch.
