Born black, brown or white in today's Britain: Does it really matter?
Dr Yvonne Kelly
UCL Epidemiology & Public Health
Abstract
People from certain ethnic minority groups living in the UK are at increased
risk of disease and death compared with the majority population, but the
reasons for these patterns are not known. It is also not clear at what point
during life such differences begin to appear - could this be as early as
childhood or even infancy? This lecture looks at the origins of ethnic
differences in health - are they genetic, cultural, or socio-environmental?
Yvonne Kelly is a Senior Lecturer and Graduate Tutor in UCL Epidemiology and
Public Health. Her main research interests are on understanding the causes
and consequences of health inequalities and a primary focus of her work is
socio- economic and ethnic inequalities in child and parent health.
