> TEN POSTS IN OPERATIONAL RESEARCH: THE LANCS INITIATIVE
> LANCS is a major new initiative, being undertaken by Lancaster, Nottingham, Cardiff and Southampton universities to grow research capacity in OR in the United Kingdom. A total investment of £13 million over five years has been made by EPSRC, the funding councils and the four universities. The strategic aim is to build a critical mass of activity in theoretical OR which will feed into, and draw upon, industrial practice and the groundbreaking applied research that is already being carried out within the UK. We will be establishing a major hub of collaborative international research and industrial outreach aimed at closing the gap between OR theory and practice. In order to realize this vision, we are seeking, initially, to appoint two professors, five lecturers, one senior postdoctoral fellow and two postdoctoral research assistants. The professorships and lectureships are permanent while the research fellow/assistant positions have a fixed term.
>
> This is the first phase in a major recruitment drive that will be carried out during the early stages of the initiative and represents an exciting opportunity to engage with a major national initiative in Operational Research. All appointees will be expected to play an active role within the initiative.
