This is by no means 'peer reviewed' research it compares Google, a phone
and a library as a speedy means to finding information).
Probably thought up by some journalists as a bit of a wheeze when in
need of some column inches at the Guardian ... But it is worth a peek
at, as long as you don't let it wind you up!

Subject: estimating time saved
Dear all,
Does anyone use, or know of, a multiplier that can be used to estimate
the difference between the time that an information professional would
(on average) take to perform a search on a particular topic versus the
time that a non-information professional would take to perform the same
search?
e.g. if it takes me an hour to search for something for a customer, how
long would it have taken the customer to perform the same search for
themselves?
What we are basically trying to do here, is get an overview of how much
we have saved the organisation by performing searches on behalf of
other, less skilled staff who have more important tasks that they should
be getting on with. I realise that this is quite an arbitrary way of
trying to do this, but these are the only kind of statistics that have
an impact.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated and I am happy to collate for
the list if anyone else is interested.
Many thanks,
Sarah
