Coming soon to a discussion list near you ... online debate about a previously neglected topic within information literacy (IL).
Intrigued?
I think that there is an important area which has not received much coverage in the IL literature so far. At the LILAC conference this week, I led an interactive workshop, which generated much lively discussion. Member of the group were keen to carry on exploring the issues that I had talked about, and someone suggested expanding the discussion by using this e-mail list as a platform for an e-debate.
I am in the process of preparing the material to facilitate the this. In the meantime, here is a thought experiment for you to try out on your colleagues, family and friends:
Imagine that the world is made up of three kinds of people, represented by different types of words:
? nouns (object words)
? adjectives (describing words)
? verbs (actions or "doing words")
For each personality type:
1) Suggest a well known person who is an example of this personality type.
2) Describe what the world would be like if everyone in the world was this type of person.
This does relate to information literacy, honest!
Watch this space.
