There is a significance it is tied into the Jewish Passover and so is the
first Sunday after the spring equinox, it will not be this early again for a
long time.

Subject: [isug_premiere] Date of Easter
Isn't it daft the way Easter wanders around the calendar like a lost soul??
Its wanderings were started in 325AD by Roman Emperor Constantine I when its
impact on school terms wasn't quite such an issue I imagine.
But it was all fixed in 1928 by the Easter Act, which specified that Easter
should be the Sunday after the second Saturday in April - ie between April
9th and 15th. How sensible! So why is it still wandering?? Well, this Act
can only come into force by an order in council after taking into account
the official opinion of any Christian church or other Christian body.
But why?? There is no spiritual significance to this wandering activity. It
is just a nuisance we all have to deal with. SO let's urge the government to
finish the job and implement the Easter Act really soon, and not worry too
much about the opinion of the churches, who really have little more of
significance to say on the matter than the rest of us.
A petition has been started on the number 10 web site at ***
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/easteract/
Please go and sign it. You may think these petitions are ignored by the
government, and many are, but remember the road toll petition got such a
huge response that the government thought again.
To make this happen again, just sign the petition and forward this email to
as many people as you can think of. Just a few cycles of people forwarding
like this and we will have a government that acts according to the wishes of
the people. Quite a novelty!
Regards
John
