Call for Papers for a Special Issue of
Journal of the Association of Information Systems on Ethics in IS Research Issues, Methods, Practices, Actions

Senior Editors:
Antony Bryant, Leeds Metropolitan University John Leslie King, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor Frank Land, LSE

OVERVIEW
'Always do right--this will gratify some and astonish the rest.' Mark Twain

The notions of social responsibility, being accountable for ones actions, transparency and sharing, and ideas about what constitutes the public good, have received considerable attention in recent years. Many of these notions under the generic heading of Ethics are as important for the field of ICT as for other arenas of action and discourse. Increasingly professional and academics - practitioners, teachers and researchers - are exhorted to act ethically and to sign up, figuratively or actually, to codes of conduct that will guide or govern their activities and actions.
The Journal of the Association of Information Systems, in its Research Perspectives section, intends to publish a special Issue on Ethics in IS Research.

The Special Issue is intended to act:
*	as a forum for researchers to reflect upon their own experiences in dealing with ethical issues and challenges - drawing out general lessons for the IS research community
*	as vehicle for debating some of the issues and concerns by, for example, drawing attention to the ethical dilemmas which may face IS practitioners, researchers and students
*	provide guidelines for researchers and students with practical examples of methods and practices, both those which offend against ethical concerns and those which suggest ways of coming to grips with problems

The editors are looking for papers concerned with
*	the ways in which researchers confront ethical challenges both before and during their research activities and projects
*	how less-experienced researchers might be guided to address ethical issues in their proposals and actual conduct
*	the way research is conducted - the ethical behaviour of the researcher as a researcher
*	the ethical challenges faced by practitioners and the ways they have thought to resolve these
*	the subject of the research and its ethical connotation
*	the ethical concerns related to the publication and dissemination of the results of the research, including the issues surrounding intellectual property rights
*	issues around the researchers and practitioners accountability
Papers may be put forward as contributions to the debate, for example, what constitutes ethical conduct in IS research and practice, theoretical frameworks, guidelines to methods and case studies.
