Statistician
Fixed term for 18 months
A medical statistician is required to join a research team who are
undertaking a range of projects in the field of environmental
epidemiology. These include a number of ongoing systematic reviews of
the literature on the health effects of outdoor air pollution. These
projects, sponsored by the Department of Health and other organisations,
have made a significant contribution to policy reviews by the Department
of Health, the World Health Organisation and the Health Effects
Institute in America. A new project to identify and evaluate evidence
for the effects of air pollution on asthma prevalence has been fun
ded by the Department of Health. This work will require the
identification of studies from the world literature; the development of
appropriate procedures to extract relevant information and the design of
databases to store and manage the data collected. The team has also been
involved in numerous time series studies of the short term health
effects of air pollution and has participated in both European and
international collaborations in this area.
The post holder will be responsible for
· the maintenance and development of new and existing air
pollution epidemiology databases
· statistical analyses of data using meta-analysis (incl.
publication bias) and meta-regression techniques
· preparation of figures, tables and text for reports and
research papers
· statistical support for other air pollution
epidemiology projects as required
You should have an MSc or equivalent qualification in biostatistics or a
related discipline and good computing skills in relation to statistical
analysis and manipulation of data. You should also have experience in at
least one major statistical software package and in database software.
Starting salary will be £30,030 pa inclusive.
