This is a new and exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced
Medical Statistician to join the Biostatistics Group based within the
Biomedical Research Unit.
The Biomedical Research Unit sits within University College London (UCL)
and the University College London Hospitals (UCLH) NHS Trust. The research
excellence of the UCL/H partnership was recently recognised through an
award of £85 million over 5 years within the NIHR programme "Best Research
for Best Health' to found a new Biomedical Research Centre. The Unit
consists of 25 staff, including clinical academics, a Biostatistics Group,
Health Services Researchers, and Bioethicists It is located at Maple
House, Tottenham Court Road. The Biostatistics Group with the Unit, plays
an important role in ensuring high methodological quality of Biomedical
and Health Services Research in UCL/H. There are currently four medical
statisticians in the Biostatistics Group which is led by Dr Rumana Omar,
Reader in Medical Statistics. Members of the group actively collaborate
with health researchers on grant applications and research projects. The
Biostatistics Group's work cuts across the 14 research themes of the newly
formed UCLH/UCL Comprehensive Biomedical Research Centre and the health
services research programme. The Biostatistics Group has close links with
the UCL Department of Statistical Science through joint appointments. The
Group's significant contribution to teaching health research methods
includes the annual internationally reputed short course "Practical
Statistics for Medical Research".
You will advise and collaborate with health researchers within UCL/H to
ensure the best possible design, conduct, analysis and reporting of
studies in biomedical and health services research. You will also be
required to be involved in the sponsorship process of UCL/H trials and be
expected to teach on the MSc in Translational Clinical Research and other
short courses. There will be opportunities to undertake methodological
research where appropriate.
You should have a postgraduate degree in Statistics (preferably Medical
Statistics), with evidence of involvement in observational studies and
trials in health research, ability to work independently and experience in
teaching health researchers. For the more junior post you will be required
to have experience in working in either observational studies or trials in
health research and have teaching experience. Appointment will be made at
Grade 7 or 8 depending on experience of the successful applicant.
This post will be suitable for an individual keen to join researchers at
UCL/H working at the forefront of health research in the UK. The post is
available immediately and is funded for 3 years in the first instance.
Salary for Grade 7 is £29,238 to £35,368 and for Grade 8 £36,351 to
£42,907 for inclusive of London Allowance (pay award pending).
