CLINICAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

Applications are invited for the above post based
in the Department of Clinical and Experimental
Epilepsy, Institute of Neurology, and the Wolfson
Molecular Imaging Centre (WMIC), which will
involve the investigation of P-glycoprotein
functions in those with temporal lobe epilepsy.
The study will be based in year 1 and 4 in the
MRI Unit, at the Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy,
using a state-of-the-art GE 3T MRI scanner to
acquire structural MRI data, and in year 2 and 3
at the WMIC using the state-of-the-art HRRT brain
positron emission tomography (PET) scanner,
working with a multidisciplinary research team of
physicists, chemists, radiographers, imaging data
analysts, as well as clinicians, pathologists and neurosurgeons.

Applicants should hold GMC registration, have
previous clinical or research experience in
Neurology, and be intending to pursue a career in
clinical neurology.   Excellent organisational
and IT skills, creativity, and the ability to act
independently as well as in a team, are also
required. The appointee will be strongly
encouraged to undertake a higher degree; the post
will provide excellent training opportunities to
broaden clinical and research skills and generate publications.

The post, which is available immediately, is
funded to January 2012 in the first instance by
the European Framework 7 Programme and will be
subject to a nine-month probationary period,
satisfactory references, and satisfactory health
clearance by the Occupational Health
Department.   The salary range for the Clinical
Academic (SpR equivalent scale) is £29,580 -
£51,219 pa; the starting salary for this post
will be £29,580 pa. London Allowance of £2,572 pa
is also payable. The post is superannuable under
the Universities’ Superannuation Scheme (USS) or,
subject to eligibility, the National Health
Service Superannuation Scheme (NHSSS).
