Assistant Archivist & Records Manager
Salary: £24,922- 29,595
35 hours per week
12 months fixed term contract
The role of Assistant Archivist & Records Manager is a varied new post
designed to support the development and effective management of the
College’s corporate records and archive collections during an exciting
period of change. The post-holder will take particular responsibility for
the implementation of an on-line archive catalogue and for the
establishment of new systems to manage the College’s semi-current paper
records. They will also be involved in a project to develop and implement
electronic records management across the organisation. They will liaise
closely with colleagues at all levels in the College to advise on all
aspects of archives and records management as well as appropriate
information compliance issues, such as Data Protection legislation. In
addition, they will provide a high-quality archive enquiry service both
within and outside the College.
The role of the College Archive is to preserve the intellectual and
business integrity of the College. It houses extensive records relating to
the activities of the College since its foundation in 1929. It also
collects personal and professional papers of past Officers, Fellows and
members and the historical records of other organisations in the field of
obstetrics and gynaecology. In addition, the Archive Team is responsible
for the College’s records management policies, programmes and procedures
and for providing advice, guidance and training to staff and Officers.
The ideal candidate will hold a professional qualification in archive
administration, records management or an equivalent subject and have some
experience of working in an archive and/or records management environment.
They will be enthusiastic, have an adaptable and flexible approach to work
and be willing to tackle the challenges posed by a wide variety of
material, ranging from 18th century manuscript collections to electronic
records.
