In this update, I have included the following information:
-	March courses
-	February courses that have places available
-	Conferences which Aslib is supporting, offering discount to corporate
members

Don't forget, if your organisation books any 5 courses during the year, you can
get a 6th one-day course free of charge.

All our courses are available as onsite events. We can also help you plan a
conference or event, providing you with all the administrative support you need.
Please contact me, if you would like a quote. My contact details are at the
bottom of this email.

COURSES:

MARCH 2008
BRITISH OFFICIAL PUBLICATIONS, Tuesday 4,
http://www.aslib.com/training/1/02.html
You should attend this course if your organisation needs to keep abreast of
current developments in parliament and government; if you have to deal with the
publications but are hazy about the system; or if you need to monitor the
development of policy or legislation.

PRESENTATION SKILLS, Wednesday 5, http://www.aslib.com/training/2/09.html
This intensive course will help you to make memorable and effective
presentations. It is a very practical workshop and you will gain the opportunity
to develop your presentation techniques in a non-threatening atmosphere.

CATALOGUING PRACTICE, Thursday 6, http://www.aslib.com/training/4/03.html
If you have experience of cataloguing or database compilation but need guidance
or practice using AACR2 and MARC (including MARC21), or want to refresh
knowledge gained some time ago, this course will give you the skills needed,
including some practice in using online public access catalogues (OPACs) and
thinking about their design criteria. Participants are invited to bring typical
material from their collections to form a group of items that can be considered
in the practical sessions.

CLASSIFICATION PRACTICE, Tuesday 11, http://www.aslib.com/training/4/04.html
If you have some experience of subject indexing, but need guidance or practice
or want to refresh knowledge gained some time ago, this course will give you the
skills needed. Participants are invited to bring typical material from their
collections to form a group of items that can be considered in the practical
sessions. Where an in-house scheme is used, it may be appropriate to bring a
copy of the scheme to the course. Major themes throughout the course are your
users, your collection and tailoring the approach to meet their needs. A
pre-enrolment form is circulated prior to the course to ascertain the
specialised indexing topics of interest to their participants. As far as
possible the practical exercises will relate to these topics.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT, Wednesday 12, http://www.aslib.com/training/2/10.html
This course will provide an overview of the skills and tasks required to
develop, manage and successfully implement projects in busy organisations. The
workshop will comprise mini-presentations and practical exercises.

KNOWLEDGE ARCHITECTURE, Thursday 13, http://www.aslib.com/training/3/03.html
This interactive workshop blends presentation, discussion and practical
exercises to consider the evolutionary stages involved in the transition from IA
to KA and to examine the most important tools and techniques involved. It
presents a number of case studies and invites delegates to discuss the
implications for information professionals, information managers, information
architects, knowledge managers and knowledge workers alike.

DEVELOPING YOUR MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP SKILLS, Tuesday 26,
http://www.aslib.com/training/2/04.html
In today's fast-changing environment it is essential that all managers continue
to develop their knowledge and skills, and this workshop provides the
opportunities for experienced managers to review their current management and
leadership skills and identify ways of improving them.

KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT, Wednesday 27, http://www.aslib.com/training/3/01.html
This seminar will give you an understanding of what knowledge management is, how
it has emerged from several key strands of management thinking and a useful
review of many of the initiatives that can and are being implemented. Perhaps
most importantly it will encourage you to respond positively to the opportunity
and the challenge represented by this subject.

UK LEGAL INFORMATION, Friday 28 (am), http://www.aslib.com/training/1/12.html
The course will cover UK legislation from inception through to repeal, looking
at consultation papers, green and white papers, the progress of Acts through
Parliament and onto their amendment and consolidation.

EU LEGAL INFORMATION, Friday 28 (pm), http://www.aslib.com/training/1/13.html
The course will cover the full range of EU legislation ranging from Treaties to
pre-legislative progress. It will include how to find out how a particular
Directive has been implemented in any specific member state. For case law, it
will take a look at the European Court of Justice, Court of First instance.
Other related information will also be covered including merger decisions and
tender notices.
