PhD Scholarship - EPSRC Industrial CASE Award
The Development of a Software GNSS Receiver for Automotive Applications
This scholarship offers full financial support for a pro-active student
looking to work with leading edge positioning technology in association
with the automotive and motor sport industry. The project could also
include a period of study (3-6 months) spent at our partner research
centre in New Zealand.
The overall aim of this project is to develop a fully flexible software-
based GNSS receiver, which is capable of being integrated with inertial
(and other) sensors. By using a software-based approach the receiver will
be optimised to serve the needs of the automotive sector, especially in
performance cars and motor sport.
Students should have a first or upper-second class degree, preferably in
surveying (geomatics), electronic engineering, information technology or
computer science, or another relevant subject such as mathematics or
physics. They should ideally have an interest in navigation and
automotive applications, and be interested in applying advanced research
techniques to solve practical problems.
The scholarship will provide full tuition fees, plus a maintenance
allowance starting at £16,000 per year, which is paid directly to the
student and is tax-free. In addition, there will be an allowance to
support research studies covering, for example, travel and subsistence for
meetings and conference attendance, books and computing facilities.
Due to the restrictions imposed by the scholarship scheme, this
opportunity is strictly limited to UK or EU students who have been
resident in the UK for three years.
