My Client wish to recruit a Technical Director to manage a centralised
software development team based in Central London.
Company background
My Client is a multi-disciplinary consultancy with offices throughout the
UK.
Due to a management restructure our Client are concentrating our GIS
software development team in London and wish to recruit a technical
director to manage this team.
The technical director will be responsible for growing the business
further, by identifying and realising opportunities within the Group, the
clients Regional Businesses and Central and their Local Government markets
in numerous sectors including environment, planning, asset management,
transport and risk management.
Your background
You will be educated to at least degree standing, preferably in computer
science, information technology or geographical sciences. The successful
applicant will be expected to apply this academic expertise in multiple
sectors, so a proven track record of applied IT / GIS skills and an
awareness of current affairs in the wider GIS market is also essential.
You will have at least eight years experience in GIS, at least three of
these in a management and project management role.
Duties and requirements
The successful applicant will come from a customer facing environment and
be able to assume a lead role within projects displaying excellent
presentation and interpersonal skills. The following management skills are
essential;
• Team leadership, staff motivation and mentoring junior developers
• product support, product planning, or consulting environment
• Business development skills and experience
• Financial management experience and keenness to be involved in the
commercial side of the business
• Excellent communication and report writing skills to both technical
and senior executive level
• Project management skills are essential, Prince 2 desirable
• Knowledge of current EU and UK GI policy, guidance and practice in
Local and Central Government sectors
• Excellent analytical, problem solving, and creative thinking skills
• Support at trade shows and business partner conferences
This is an advanced level GIS technical position, successful performance
requires detailed technical knowledge and practical application of;
• Direct experience of software installation and development is
required, along with a thorough understanding of relational database design
and administration
• Comprehensive knowledge and track record in deployment of ESRI
produces, ranging from ArcGIS Desktop to ArcGIS Server (ArcIMS / ArcSDE)
and bespoke software development using ESRI ArcObjects
• Detailed practical knowledge of other standard GIS software
platforms, from desktop and web-based applications to enterprise systems
• Working knowledge of Microsoft development technologies (VB.net,
Visual Studio, SQL server, ASP.Net 2.0)
• Web technologies (XML, HTML, AJAX technologies)
A consultancy background would be an advantage but is not essential. This
position will require some travel to client sites, so a clean driving
license is essential.
