Dear Nicole,
just a guess: You may have run some SPM extension like WFU pickatlas
before starting estimation. Some of these extensions have their own
copies of SPM internal routines. These routines may have been changed by
SPM updates, but running the extension will re-introduce old code. If
this happens you should make sure SPM is in your MATLAB path before any
such tools.
