Two full-time posts are available with immediate effect for a period of three years, with a possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funding. Both appointees will be part of, and work closely with, a wider University network of staff, based in the faculties and the central services, who have responsibility for training research students and staff in generic and research skills.
Post 1: Researcher Training and Development Officer, Staff and Departmental Development Unit (SDDU) - Job ref 217195 Working closely with key stakeholders across the University, including representatives of all faculties, central services and staff in SDDU, you will have two key roles: (i) To design, develop, promote, implement, deliver and evaluate a range of training and development provision and opportunities, at faculty and central levels, for postgraduate research students and research staff; (ii) To maintain and enhance the SDDU web presence for postgraduate research students.
Post 2: Research Skills Training Manager, Faculties of Environment and Mathematics and Physical Sciences (MAPS) -Job ref 217196 You will lead and manage the development of a range of generic skills training for research postgraduate students and postdoctoral scientists in the Faculties of Environment and MAPS. The post is supported by a clerical assistant and, within the Faculty of Environment, a part-time member of staff who develops training activities specifically for postdoctoral researchers. There is line management responsibility for the clerical assistant.
For each post you should have a doctorate and experience of carrying out research at doctoral level or beyond. For Post 1 a research background in the arts, humanities or social sciences would be an advantage although not essential. For Post 2 the doctorate should be in a natural, environmental or physical science discipline. For both posts you will have experience of designing, developing and delivering teaching or training courses in an academic, R&D or similar environment and an ability to teach on courses for researchers. You will understand research methodologies (scientific research methodologies for Post 2) and issues facing researchers in the UK HE sector. With highly developed presentation, facilitation, communication, interpersonal, organisational and IT skills, you will have an enthusiasm for training and development and a commitment to customer service. Willing and able to work with a range of academic, professional and support staff, postgraduate research students and research staff, you will be creative, pragmatic in problem-solving and able to deliver on multiple agenda. We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated self-starters, who enjoy working in teams, are keen to embrace change and will have a positive attitude to the University's values.
