Dear Jenny,
I think I can. I am a Science in Society Fellow from the STFC dedicated to
public outreach in the areas of particle physics, cosmology, astrophysics,
extra solar planets and astrobiology. I am sure that some of my co-STFC
fellows would also contribute. I'll have a look...
regards
francisco

> Dear Psci-commers,
I wonder if you can help?
As part of this year's National Science and Engineering Week, the BA are
running a project called "The Big Questions" which challenges the public
to pose their burning science and engineering questions which we will
attempt to answer during the week through live events, online and via the
media. www.the-ba.net/thebigquestion.
We have had a number of questions in already (on a huge variety of topics)
but we are hoping to launch this to the national media at the start of the
Week (6th March) and this is expected to encourage a large number of
submissions by the public. We are currently looking for
scientists/experts to help us answer some of these questions and I
wondered whether you might be able to help with this and/or you could
either help us identify some suitable experts to approach? So far, we
have various organisations on board to help us to answer questions,
ranging from the British Library to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, and
ideally we would really like representatives from all the scientific
disciplines to be on board to support this!
You can find a list of the questions we've had in so far at
http://bigquestion.wordpress.com/ - you can search by category or can look
through the unanswered questions by clicking on the links down the left
hand side - most of the questions are quite simple but some have very
subjective answers, some are also quite silly, and quite a few are
variations on a common theme.
It wouldn't require any meetings. Instead we would ask you have a look
through the questions on the blog (preferably the unanswered ones) and if
you could answer any of them we'd ideally like a short answer between 50
and 200 words in answer which we/you would add to the blog. You would
obviously get credit for this ÿÿ and you can have space for information
(i.e. about your events or institution or research you do) and a link to a
suitable website if you would like. We would like people who look at the
blog to not only learn about the science behind the big questions but also
about those people who can answer them and the careers and events they do.
We would like to be able to tackle the majority of the questions we have
so far by the 6th March - however - I also suspect we will get in a brand
new batch at the start of the Week which we would like to have some
answers for by the 13th March (so quite a short turn around time!)
I hope this all makes sense. Any help you could give us with this would be
really appreciated as we would like to answer as many Big Questions as we
possibly can!
I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Jenny Beard
