SCIENCE EDUCATION OFFICER
The Soanes Environmental Centre is located in Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park
nature reserve and run by SETPOINT London East. It offers Tower Hamlets
schools a range of Science and Technology activities, which aim to raise the
level of interest and achievement in these subjects. We are seeking an
Education Officer to join our team to deliver what is a well-established
programme of workshops that attracts participation from over 6000 children
each year. The appointment is offered on either a permanent or a short-term
basis.
The work includes:
• Term time delivery of environmental and science workshops at the centre
and in the park, for school children of all ages and abilities (mostly primary).
• Collaborative work with other organisations including Local Education
Authorities and the Friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery Park.
The successful applicant will be someone that has:
• Prior experience of leading Environmental or Science workshops for school
children
• A degree or equivalent in biology or environmental studies
• Good organisational skills and the ability to work without supervision
• A keen interest in the local environment, especially the Tower Hamlets
Cemetery Park
• Enthusiasm for advancing the scientific achievement of local children
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn about the use of ICT in the classroom
(Interactive whiteboard and handheld computers)
Salary will be in the region of £24,000 per annum pro-rata for the permanent
position, or £60-70 per half-day workshop for the short-term position.
