Dear Soo,
Could you post this call for abstracts (see attachment) on the normal
childbirth e-list?
If you know other distribution channels, feel free to spread the call to
other networks.
I would like to promote the session
Care-arrangements and well-being in the transition to parenthood
This sessions' focus will be on the consequences of the organisation of
formal and informal care in the transition to parenthood for indicators of
the well-being of men and women, for example satisfaction, fear, depression,
and other health related outcomes. As such, papers related to the following
are welcome: 1) the way the organisation of formal and informal care impacts
on the well-being of new parents or parents to be. This includes
cross-national comparisons, but also different care-arrangements within the
same country can be compared; for example in the area of formal care the
role of the work organisation (care practices) and culture (care attitudes)
of midwifes and other health care professions can be assessed; regarding
informal care, the division of labour within the family is relevant. 2) the
determinants of maternal and paternal wellbeing; this refers to some key
subjects in sociology, such as social stratification, social inequality,
migration, social mobility and networks, but also to the conditions in which
birth takes place, such as the degree of medicalisation and the work-family
conflict; 3) how different indicators of maternal wellbeing relate to each
other; this also welcomes papers on methodological issues.
Thanks a lot!
Best wishes,
Wendy Christiaens
